Completion deals with a divorced couple whose north London home has fallen out of use since their parting and the departure of their family. When it is decided that it is finally time to sell, some unexpected new occupants are discovered. A state of the nation novel, set in an age of property obsession, Tim’s debut is a perceptive and funny book about money, love and the sorrows and joys of family.
Tim tells us what it means to him to be published by William Heinemann.
William Heinemann is a quintessentially British publisher, whose authors include American giants like John Steinbeck and James Ellroy. It’s a serious literary imprint, which published The Hitch Hiker’s Guide to the Galaxy. When I was working on Completion, I aspired to write a novel that felt utterly British, but somehow Transatlantic, too. I wanted it to have some serious themes, but, more importantly, I wanted it to be funny. (You can get away with anything if you’re funny.) For these reasons and more, I couldn’t think of a better place to be.
I think Carlton sums it up better than I ever could…
Completion will be published in January by William Heinemann.
